Tune in for a soul stirring experience, and don't be surprised if you hear something unexpected! Mike and Malcolm play a selection of  top quality American music with a Gospel, Blues and Soul flavour, drawn from the golden eras - It is examples of this music that Malcolm and I will be playing in our twice monthly Sunday morning show. Hope you'll be able to join us and share in our enthusiasm.

DJ 78 Presents: 'The Shellac Shake'

He'll spin anything if it's on shellac - Rock'n'Roll, Hillbilly, Gospel, Blues, Hawaiian, Big Band, Novelty Songs and The Teddy Bears Picnic. With a desire to inform and entertain, DJ78 takes his cue from the late, great John Peel and ignores the surface noise to bring you the best from four decades of popular music. Shellac, in case you didn't know, was what records were made from before vinyl arrived in the late 50's - it's scratchy and horribly fragile, but has an atmosphere all it's own and sounds like a direct link to the past. Pip Pip!

Hillbilly Hoedown

Presented by Hotrod Hector, playing a mixture of blazin' bluegrass, stompin' skiffle, red-hot rockabilly and rootin' tootin' hillbilly!' Born at an early age to parents, Hotrod Hector (his real name) spent his formative years as a child. After leaving school, Hector took up a variety of jobs - Possum Carver, Wild Man, Hound Dog - before settling in Cumberland, home of the famous 'Gap'. For many years he lived quietly before the lure of the far-east proved too much and he re-located to the Norwich Rocky Mountains. After a brief stint in the Norfolk Mountain Rescue Service, he returned to his first love - standing in the middle of the road shouting at them new-fangled horseless carriages. Unfortunately, Hector was also fond of a glass or two of that good old mountain dew, and after one incident too many, he decided to clean up his act and find some meaning in his life. Luckily, he chanced upon a local community radio station who, in a fit of much-regretted madness - were more than happy to stake their future, finances, reputations, and, in some cases, the very shirts from their backs, on Hotrod Hector's Hillbilly Hoedown. Y'all won't let them down now, will you listener?

DJ78's Blog number 1 - Breakfast and Alex James...

Howdy all!

Having been up since 5am in order to present the Breakfast Show in Terry's abscence, I'm probably going to ramble, but I thought I'd share the events of an exciting morning with you lovely people...

Being first in to the NR5 projects building was a strange experience - it's like a ghost ship that plays music to itself - station manager Tom very kindly came in early and showed me which buttons did what, then left me to it.

Highlights (on the discs, I hasten to add!) include some very un-pc attitudes to women, the theme tune from Stuart Lee's Comedy Vehicle, trombones (and songs about them) and to finish, a Portugese language version of a favourite Glenn Miller tune by a lady with bananas in her hair!
