There was so much to talk about Broads during my interview that I did not have time to talk about many of the activities of the Broads Society. Here are a few.
We were instumental in saving How Hill from being sold and acceess lost for the public We helped to set up the Trust that runs it very successfully today.
The Society supported the formation of the Norfolk, and Suffolk Broads Chairable Trust to fund projects that will benefit the Broads.
We have worked with the Broads Authority to underground unsightly power cables that cross open marsh land in the Broads. We also put pressure on the authorities to remove eyesores in the area.
The Society founded the very successful Silent Sensatios show to encourage electric propulsion for boats and other ways of ensuring the Braods are an area for quiet enjoyment.
We are able to organise public meetings to air controversial issues such as the problem of weed growth on Hickling Broads when we had an audience of over 400 people.
A most important activity is to comment on all planning applications made to the Broads Authority, objecting where it is felt that a development will harm the environment.
It is a busy Society doing a great job for the Broads.
