Yeovil 0 - 4 Norwich City
Yeovil 0 - 4 Norwich City : Holt gives three of the best to the canaries cause!!
The league cup was never more important as it would turn out to be this year.
After the calamity of the colchester game people worlwide, not just city fans would like for signs of pride from the canaries, or as Gunn put it " a reaction from the lads".
The reaction from Gunny was to make changes and refresh things, Spillane, McDonald, Askou and Adeyemi would come in to the side. It was No shock either to find Alwick between the sticks for the canaries after Theoklitos first league game looked more like a circus performence!
Out went Nelson, Otsemobor who also could have joined that same circus as the keeper! Chris Martin maybe more un lucky than the rest of the suspects, as he never really had any service to speak of, Tudur Jones is away living it up with the Welsh internationals.
The first half was very much stalemate with the canaries having the best chance Spillane contacted with a corner only to see his effort scrambled off the line, as the half went on Norwich grew in confidence.
Adam Dury took over pace down the left and headed in the box and was bundled to the ground, from this Hoolahan kept cool head and put a neat finish past the routed keeper from the pen. City 0-1 yeahhhhhhhh! 55 minutes and the canaries had found the groove!
City never looked back taking control and enjoying the game, Whaley then broke down the right to see his perfect cross met in the air by Grant Holt like a bullett it flew past the again routed keeper McCarthy, only leaving him to pick the ball out of the net. 0 - 2, come on you yellows!!!
The third came from excellent work by the young Tom Adeyemi, who powered just inside the box to power his shot at McCarthy who could only block the shot, the rebound falling to the powerhouse Holt to slot home with pure srtikers ease. 0 - 3, still with 8 minutes on the clock!
Yeovil fans were leaving for the exits, when Holt collected the ball 20 yards from goal with neat switch of feet he angled his finish to make the perfect end to the game, and make him the hatrick man. 0 - 4, good nights work... job done!!
So pride restored for now, but all eyes now turn to Exeter away on Saturday and the bread n butter of league points.
Gunn was happy with the nights work “Obviously we made a few changes,” said Gunn. “The character the players showed tonight in light of what happened on Saturday, I knew what we would get - we didn't get it until the end of the game but certainly the season starts now.
“We have four days to prepare for the Exeter game and it is something we are delighted about.
“We looked for a reaction from Saturday and it could have gone two ways. We could have come down to Yeovil and not applied ourselves on the pitch, but certainly tonight the 11 that started and the three subs that came on all applied themselves.
“We asked for togetherness and unity, it didn't happen back on Saturday too much. It was obviously disappointing, but at the same time the response was what we asked for. We got that and we are all delighted in the dressing room.”
So one job done through to the next round, now three points on Saturday!
