Post Next Big Thing, Bring on the next thing…

By Terry Lee - Posted on 16 November 2009

Hello all,
It sure was an exciting Sunday for me a couple of Sunday’s back. It started with me waking up in bed, still pleased following the night before’s David Haye victory over Valuev in the boxing. I’m a bit of a David Haye fan and I look forward to seeing what he achieves as a heavyweight now, bring on the Klitchkos!

After a quick breakfast, and kissing Nellie goodbye, I went off to play football in what was my first Sunday league match in years! Certainly my first since injuring my knee over a year and a half ago. My kicking was appalling but thanks to some good defending by Tom Buckham at centre-back, I didn’t have a busy game. We won 7-1. And I got to get the old keeper top out again, always a treat for fans of ‘Spall’ kits that one.

I got to the LCR just after 2pm, where the very helpful LCR staff had made it quite easy for us to set up. So the backstage ‘studio’ was set up, we had a last minute planning meeting for the radio broadcast, and we prepared for the night ahead!
All the acts were great to work with, although Alloy Ark’s ability to go missing at all times was highly amusing. It’s ok though, they gave me the nicest compliment about my suit so I like them. Throughout the night I was miked-up by the filming guys, who did a great job upstairs with the green screen! I very much enjoyed introducing the acts to the stage, and hope I get to do something similar again!
Between the acts I tried to say hello to Nellie, and my sister Rebecca and her husband Alex who had come up for the night – but I found myself so busy it was hard to find much time to get out there! So if I promised you I’d say hello and didn’t, I’m sorry.

I thought the winners of the Next Big Thing – Console Wars – were very worthy of the prize and I think they will use the award to go on to bigger and better things. Soon I will be playing some studio material from them I hope, the guys have a friend in the Terry Lee Breakfast show.

So bring on the next thing – which for me happens to be the ‘Marathon Broadcast’ – it starts at 7am on Thursday 26th, ending at 10am on Friday 27th. 27 hours, an hour for every mile of the marathon. Some have asked me why I didn’t do a 13 hour show instead - considering the City of Norwich half marathon is indeed 13 miles long – but 13 hours just doesn’t sound as good. In fact, looking at the decline of commercial radio, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were already presenters doing a 13 hour shift! My personal view is that there is only so long one man should be presenting ‘more music variety’ to his probably bored audience.

Anyway, I lost my thread a little there; the point is that all the ‘marathon’ festivities are raising funds for Future and our…future! If you can donate a little please visit www.justgiving.com/futuremarathon and whoever you fancy, the runners or me, give a little our way.

More info about the ‘Marathon Broadcast’ to be published soon – it is turning into quite a show!

Cheers for now,

TLx
