Next Big Thing at NAC

Hello All,

What a week it has been at Future Towers! As ever this Next Big Thing event has been keeping us busy – but it ended up being that bit busier than we imagined it would be after Wednesday...

We were all set for the final being at OPEN, Kate Roma and myself were planning on going into the venue on the Thursday to have a look round and make sure we were all set for the behind the scenes actions for the big day.

It was Wednesday when station manager Tom Buckham took the call from the guys at OPEN telling us that there was a problem with their alcohol license application. At first we considered staying put and expecting the wrath of the gig watching public who wanted a beer. However, by Thursday there was a change of heart all round, and we made some phone calls. Massive thank yous to Ian Johnson from Access To Music in his help for securing us the Norwich Arts Centre for the big day. It maybe a smaller venue, but it is a more natural home for gigs like this! Think of the stars who have performed there! We hope that Sunday’s winners will be stars of the future.

Who will win? Well, I don’t know, and I don’t envy the job of the independent judges who have to make the decision. We have hip hop from C.O.L.L., indie pop from Hello Bear, Rockin’ Garage-Rock from Lady Panther, The Kinks meet Cobain in Strawberry Forks, female-electro precision pop from ...Of Diamonds, and the talented and innovative Girl In A Thunderbolt. It’s anyone’s title! See you at the Norwich Arts Centre. £5 on the door, if you get there before it sells out.

Cheers,
