What's Happening at Future Radio? An overdue update...
Hello all,
I got a spare minute so thought i'd write. The busy times are here to stay at Future Radio....
The election coverage has been hardcore, one of my jobs this time has been to contact all the candidates for Norwich North and South to get them on the radio to express their views. The results can be found via www.futureradio.co.uk/election. I am particularly proud of us doing this, I think it's fair to say we have given excellent coverage of the General Election this year (especially considering we have had limited resources to work on it, and no full-time election team to permanently follow the local election trail). Massive thank yous to the Community Chest team for their hard and often flexible work to sort these features out. Sometimes I tune in and it's easy to forget we are volunteer run.
As a former Politics student at UEA I have been always fascinated by General Elections, this year I will be spending election night at the Norwich South Count at St Andrews Hall as a member of the press! As well as record reactions and thoughts of the candidates, my plan is to make a documentary to be played out soon on Future to reveal some behind the scenes stuff. I shall hope it works and it SHOULD be fun to listen to.
As I am at the count, I will not be on Breakfast show duties on Friday - Wee Willy Wilson is coming in instead - nice man.
What's the latest with the relaunch I hear you ask! Well... We will be knowing more soon but I think it's fair to say June is the month of reinvention and relaunch, and we are pretty sure of our new frequency (which will be higher up the dial). Fuzzy reception spots in Norwich - AWAY WITH YOU! Soon.
Finally - Timmy Wilds, who has been with us for the last 6 months in the office, has officially left the Future Staff ranks. Tim was a brave Future soldier, a master editor, effective podcaster and his beardy presence will be missed in the office. Also; Tim's girlfriend Bethan, on being introduced to me for the first time at the Platform Unplugged event, said hello by drunkenly stroking my face and saying "it's so nice for you to spend some time with us normal people" or something similar. That amused me greatly. Thanks for the memories Mr Wilds!
All for now,
TLx
