Stagnant; A feature length film to be made on our doorstep.

By Simone Hayes - Posted on 19 April 2009

This afternoon, I had the great pleasure of meeting Gordon Smith; local author and (soon-to-be) filmmaker. we were chatting about Stagnant- a comedy horror that he, as part of Fear Driven Films, are hoping to start shooting in August. The film is set on the Norfolk Broads, and will follow a group of chaps on a stag do on the broads that turns sour when a mysterious lady appears and turns the mood from cheer to fear.

I had recently read one of Gordon's books, Furnace, which came out in the shops last month, and although it was written for teenagers, I loved it completely and read it inside 24 hours. Written in full gore and terrifying imagary that plays on the psyche as well as the stomach, it was clear that Gordon has a penchant for horror in a wider sense, and Stagnant seems like the perfect excuse to let it all break loose.

At the moment, they are finalising their cast, with help from Nuts magazine, who are running a competitionto find one of the characters, and will be busy over the next few months finishing off all the pre-production needed for a feature length film (which Gordon assures me is tonnes!) which includes making severed limbs, as well as building up a sizeable crew.

It sounds like a great project, and something that all film fans dream of doing, but don't dare, or know how to go about doing it. It's the first film Gordon has made, along with the rest of the production company Fear Driven Films, but they have enlisted the help of an experienced film director (Jennifer Oey) who will keep them on track. As a low-budget feature length film, Fear Driven Films will be looking for enthusiastic people to help with the production and on set- a great opportunity for people to get some experience of working on the set of a feature film.

The Sunday Film Roast team will be getting behind Stagnant as much as possible, and will be following their progress over the coming months, hopefully with on-location reports, and getting stuck in on the muddy banks of the Norfolk broads!

Good luck guys!

Shaun: You know, I don't think I've got it in me to shoot my flatmate, my mum, and my girlfriend all in the same evening.

Liz: What makes you think I've taken you back?

Shaun: Well, you don't want to die single do you?
