New Single Review : "World News" by Local Natives Out 7th June
"World News" by Local Natives Out 7th June
LA based Local Natives, a band who have kicked into overdrive since an appearance at last years SXSW Festival in the States, return with another cut from their highly regarded but largely overlooked debut album "Gorilla Manor". They're definitely practitioners of a very UK dominated musical style, what might be called indie rock, but they add a few very pleasing twists to an oversaturated genre. "World News" is both tight and loose. 3-part vocal harmonies and a persistent rhythm section are nicely complemented by a more casual and uncomplicated production. The guitar sound lively, crisp, and clear. And lyrically it steers away from the usual cynicism and desire to shock that many British indie bands adhere to. But it's still not without a little bit of darkness. After all, everyone finds it frustrating when stuck in traffic, you change lanes only to see the lane you just vacated starting to flow once more!
