Skunk Anansie – My Ugly Boy – Released August 16th

After many quiet years, Skunk Anansie are back with a brand new album and their first single My Ugly Boy heralds their return to the rock scene. They are touring nationwide this autumn and playing several festivals this summer. Although not a groundbreaking song, My Ugly Boy has a certain rock je ne sais crois, perhaps because it reminds me of the heady days of the mid-90’s. Definitely worth a listen.

The Count & Sinden feat Mystery Jets – After Dark – Released August 16th

After Dark is the first single to be taken from The Count & Sinden’s forthcoming debut LP Mega Mega Mega due on 23rd August. It’s a great song, poppy and summery and electro…we on the Afternoon Session really enjoyed it. Watch out for more from this group in the future.

Laura Marling – Darkness Descends – Released August 9th

A track taken from Laura Marling’s second album I Speak Because I Can, this is just a beautiful, tuneful song from the singer songwriter who can do no wrong in my eyes. Her guitar playing is becoming more intricate and tender and her voice and storytelling abilities continue to grow in confidence. She’s playing at Latitude and I urge you to go watch her.

Surfer Blood – Floating Vibes – Released 23rd August

This band hail from West Palm Beach, Florida, and met one fateful night at an after party for Miami’s Ultra Festival. This is the second single to be taken from their album Astro Coast recorded in their uni dorm rooms. Their debut single Swim received a lot of radio coverage and they will be playing the Reading and Leeds festivals this year. Very summery sounding, quite Beach Boys, definitely all American in sound; musically they sound like a proficient Pavement. A lovely song to listen to on a drive to the beach!
